Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Sport and Sunshine. DESCRIPTION: ATHLETICS - One of the sporting events of the Bank Holiday was the International Athletics meeting between Britain and France at the White City. YACHTING - The Bank Holiday also saw the start of Cowes Week although most of the races seemed to be in the smaller classes. RACING - Enormous crowds flocked to Epsom on ‘City and Suburban’ Race day. The race itself was won by the Earl of Rosebery’s Hobo. SHOTLIST: WHITE CITY - KS People seated by fence. Athletes marching round. Various shots of races - get set and off for the 100 yards. MacDonald Bailey wins from Archer. Shots of the high jump - Alan Paterson and Prince Adedoyin (Nigeria) jumping. CU the two of them, the Prince having won. Pistol goes for the three mile run. Cut-in crowds in stadium. Various shots of race - Wooderson passing Pujazon (France), Shots of Wooderson running - he wins. COWES - KS of yachts with cruiser HMS Birmingham in background. CU pan up of sails. Various shots of yachts. Gun fires, naval men look through binoculars. Good panning shot of race. Scenes on deck of yacht - man on board. CU sails. LS yachts racing then closer shot with HMS Birmingham in background. EPSOM - KS Pan of course, crowds etc. Crowds on heath, eating etc. Various type shots. Woman seated in car feeding baby from bottle. Queue for ices - types eating ices. Pan of course. Horses in paddock. Bookie’s stand - horses paraded. Start of ‘City and Suburban’ Hobo, Port Light, Grand Duke and Dancing Time all in a bunch. Hobo goes ahead. Cut-in of crowds at rails. Port Light second, owned by the Earl of Rosebery, Hobo wins.
