- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Preparations for Atomic Bomb Test. Operation Crossroads. DESCRIPTION: America plans some atomic tests at Bikini Atoll in the Pacific. Operation Crossroads as it has been named will use some of America’s old warships for target practice. SHOTLIST: KS GV tank being swung aboard ship. Interior GV Chiefs of Staff seated round table. CU Admiral Blandy saying why they are going to experiment on the atom bomb. Aerial shot of Saratoga carrier. GVs battleships USS New York, USS Pennsylvania and USS Nevada. German battleship Prince Eugen. Japanese light cruiser Sakawa and battleship Nagato. Map shows Marshall group of islands in Pacific, distance from America shown on map, also Bikini in large letters. LCT evacuates islanders, same come ashore (unknown) with their belongings, several shots of islanders at their new homes. Aboard Aircraft carrier Shangri-la, many planes on flight deck, one takes off, robot plane. Gaining height, the master fighter plane flies alongside same, pilot at controls also at instruments which controls other planes, cut-in of officer at instruments on board carrier which controls robot plane for take-offs and landings, also flights if necessary. Robot plane lands on carrier. Several aerial shots during plane’s flight. Aerial of Bikini island. Ground shots of men building giant steel towers, one welding on same. Several of same being erected, for observation by camera. Two shots of atom bomb exploding on Mexico beach - good shots.
