- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: A Child’s Dream of Christmas. DESCRIPTION: A look back to the Christmas of pre-war years when food and toys were plentiful. In these times of austerity we have to make the best of Christmas present. SHOTLIST: KS Sign "Oxford Street W1". Tracking shot along Oxford Street, shows shop windows full of toys etc. as they were pre-war days - Library. CU pre-war doll. CU doll of today. Interior husband and wife prepare "cheap" toys for their child. Husband puts on Father Christmas clothes and creeps up stairs. Child in bed asleep, well, at least her eyes are closed, also she occasionally opens them. Father Christmas places toys and dolls on mantelpiece. Pan toys. Library sequence - Puppets dancing pre-war. Inside childrens hospital, youngsters have pillow fight, matron comes in and catches them, puts them back in their cots. Father Christmas appears at window, climbs through, hits his head on window as he climbs through. Christmas morning, kids look in stocking (pillow cases). Small children walk into ward, one slips over on the floor. Hundreds of children seated at Christmas table pre-war days, wearing paper hats etc. Grown-ups attend the children, giving them all the food etc. they want. Inside shops, marionettes, seated at tables "eating", "dancing", all worked by machinery; generally performing. Hundreds of turkeys hanging in shop window. Interior shot - family seated at table, father prepares to lift salver cover, on lifting same, instead of a turkey, pound of sausages.
