- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: War Echoes From America. DESCRIPTION: On show in America the Army’s new 36 inch mortar which was used in the fight against Japan. At the Senate Office Building, Washington the Pearl Harbour Enquiry has opened. At the Kure Naval Base, Japan, the battered remnants of Japan’s Navy can be seen. Also in Washington General Eisenhower has appeared before the Military Affairs Committee. The question under consideration was whether universal military training should be continued. SHOTLIST: KS GV giant mortar in tow. Various shots of mortar being towed to firing place. Barrel elevating, two ton shell sliding into barrel. American officer presses button. Giant mortar fired, huge explosion. GV crater caused by weapon, mix to Senate Office Building, Washington. Poster reads Pearl Harbour Inquiry. GV Senate Office Building exterior. Interior shots of committee sitting. SCU Rear Admiral Kimmel and Lieutenant General Short. SCU Senator Barkley. Colonel Thielen speaks into mike explaining position. Rear Admiral Inglis says that all ships were manned on December 7th, 1940 before Pearl Harbour. Various shots of reporters taking notes. Officers point to maps on walls. GS assembly, mix to various shots of remains of Japanese Fleet, sunken hulks, in Kure Naval Base, half sunken battleships, capsized aircraft carrier, battered cruisers etc., mix to Washington, Eisenhower at Military Affairs Committee, SCU Eisenhower, says every country must be fully armed, etc. else otherwise there will be another war very shortly. Cut-ins of audience listening.
