Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Us Navy Day. DESCRIPTION: Navy Day celebrations in America were a very big occasion. The ships were moored in the Hudson River and President Truman dedicated America’s new aircraft carrier before reviewing the fleet. Later thousands gathered in Central Park to hear the President’s speech of which Atomic Power was the theme. SHOTLIST: KS Aerial River Hudson with American warship in same. Various shots of American Navy laying in river. GVs of Aircraft Carrier "Franklin D Roosevelt". President Truman arrives with Mr La Guardia, walking along quay. Also present are Mrs Roosevelt and Mrs Forrestal. Truman dedicates ships, speaks about Roosevelt giving his life for his country. Truman reviews the Fleet, steams along Hudson River aboard destroyer "Renshaw", various shots. CU Truman waving his hat, as he passes ships. Various shots of aircraft carriers, battleships, including "Missouri", cruisers, destroyers etc. some with New York skyscrapers as background. Aerial shot of river in fore, New York in background - very good. As destroyer passes ships fire 21 gun salute. Blimps hover overhead. Cut-ins of Truman aboard destroyer waving hat, crowds line banks of river. Approaching Brooklyn Bridge. Formations of planes fly overhead, also in Roosevelt’s initials. At Central Park, New York, tens of thousands listen to an address by Truman, who mentions "the atom bomb, outlawing of same". Various shots of Truman also cut-ins of crowds listening.
