Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: War Lords Receive Degrees. DESCRIPTION: Oxford University honours a number of our war time personalities. General Eisenhower, General Mark Clark and Field Marshal Montgomery were among those to receive degrees in the Sheldonian Theatre. SHOTLIST: KS Exterior Sheldonian Theatre. Crowds cheer, wave etc. as procession of war leaders are about to enter Sheldonian Theatre. Looking down aisle from outside of theatre. Interior as procession walk down aisle, crowds applaud and cheer. General Eisenhower is presented, inauguration read by Mr Higham (Public Orator). "Ike" walks forward and shakes hands with Sir Richard Livingstone (Vice-Chancellor). Mr Higham presents all, ceremony read in Latin. Mark Clark presented to Vice-Chancellor. As each are presented so they take a seat. Air Chief Marshal Tedder presented. Field Marshal Montgomery presented. Various cut-ins of audience applauding SCU Eisenhower and Clark applauding. Procession leave, walk down aisle, amongst are the former and also Mr Winant (US Ambassador), Admiral Tovey, Lord Alanbrooke, Lord Gowrie, Professor Huber and Jan Hofmeyr. Prior to Tedder being presented, Lieutenant General Freyberg is presented. Outside theatre, procession walk into camera to finish.
