Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: HMAC "Hercules" Launched. DESCRIPTION: Sir Stafford and Lady Cripps attended the Tyneside launch of Britain’s latest aircraft-carrier. They had to battle against a gale to be heard during the speeches. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS Sir Stafford Cripps and Lady Cripps on dais, crowds around them. The above walking to launching dais. GV "Hercules" on stern of carrier. GV crowd singing hymn before launching. Lady Cripps names ship and launches same, actually unnamed person breaks bottle on ship. Terrific gale blowing during launching. Aircraft Carrier Hercules down slipway, entering water, "Rule Britannia" being sung and cheering. Sir Stafford Cripps addressed crowd saying "we won the war through everybody giving their best unstintingly".
