Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Surrenders - Manila & Rangoon. DESCRIPTION: Lieutenant-General Kawabe met the Japanese surrender delegates who landed at Manila. Lieutenant-General Sutherland represented General MacArthur in explaining that arrangements were being made for the signing of the unconditional surrender by Japan. The surrender in Rangoon took place at Government House where Lieutenant General Browning officiated. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: MANILA - KS Japanese envoys arrive by air. Their chief, Lieutenant General Kawabe, meets US Colonel Mashbir. Kawabe also meets Major General Willoughby. Various interiors of conference, including Lieutenant General Sutherland and CU Lieutenant General Kawabe. RANGOON - Senior officers on aerodrome awaiting arrival of Japs, included Lieutenant General Stopford (Commander 12th Army). Planes arrive and Jap envoys Lieutenant General Numata, Rear Admiral Chudo and Colonel Tomura walk over aerodrome. Numata was received by Major General Symes. Shots of Japanese air crews. Jap envoys into covered truck along road Military Police escort. Pan on Government House, Rangoon. Japs arrive at same and into building. Various interiors of signing. Japs and Allied Officers to seats. Various look down shots. CU Lieutenant General Browning who makes speech. Various interiors.
