- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Berlin & the Big Three. DESCRIPTION: Under the shadow of the Brandenburg Gate Field Marshal Montgomery presents medals to Marshal Zhukov and Marshal Rokossovsky. The people of Berlin have begun clearing up their city whose once imposing buildings now lie in ruins. The homeless set out with their belongings to find somewhere to live and there are queues for everything. Mr Churchill, President Truman and Marshal Stalin all arrived in Berlin for the Potsdam Conference that was to decide the future of Europe. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Three Allied Flags. Monty greets Zhukov & Rokossovsky at the Brandenburg Gate. Shake hands. Monty presents Zhukov with GCB, & Rokossovsky KCB. Monty makes gestures to Russians to follow him. Above on dais watch marchpast of Grenadier Guards, GV of same. Cut-ins of Berliners on sidewalk. Troops of the 7th Armoured Division clean their Cromwell tanks. Various shots of armoured cars, Bren carriers. Cromwell tanks, half-track vehicles in marchpast. General Lyne takes salute. Marines marchpast, elevated shot, troops on bridge across roadway look on. Aerial shots of Berlin fade to night raid on Berlin, ground shots of buildings burning. Next morning, ruins, twisted girders, etc. German civilians walk about ruins, tramcars wrecked in roadway, bomb-holes, etc. Various shots of women clearing debris. Other with handcarts walk through streets. Queues for transport everywhere, boarding buses. In markets, de-hydrated potatoes being sold. Adverts nailed on fences and trees. CU fellow reading same. various shots of women crying, seated on kerbs, etc. Various shots of Germans in side-walk cafes. Elevated shot of people walking through street. GV of cafe, with coffee pot on same, fade to "Augusta" USA cruiser, en route to Antwerp, this being mid-Atlantic. Truman disembarks at quay, along gang-way, greeted by Eisenhower. CU of both. Enter car, Truman followed by Mr Byrnes (Secretary of State). Car moves off, detectives run alongside same. In Berlin, Skymaster taxies. Churchill off plane, greeted by Montgomery, Lyne & Sholto Douglas. Attlee walks across aerodrome. Churchill in Hussars uniform (colonel), seated in jeep, drives through streets of Berlin, under Brandenburg Gate. Stops at Reichstag & Chancellory, crowd along streets, includes Churchill, Eden, Attlee, Sholto Douglas, Monty, Mary Churchill, Field Marshal Brooke, Admiral Cunningham, ACM Portal, General Lyne. Churchill looks at bomb-hole where Hitler & Eva Braun were supposed to have died. Roads leading to Potsdam sentries every few yards, sentry inspects identity of car occupants, car drives through barrier, trucking shot of same. Signpost "Berlin/Potsdam". GVs of building surrounded by picturesque flower-beds. Pan down to "Star" in flowers. Churchill & Truman walk down steps of latter’s residence. CU of both shaking hands. Inside conference room. Churchill greeted by Stalin, Truman greeted by Stalin, shots of the above speaking through interpreter, to finish.
