Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: America’s Welcome to General Ike. DESCRIPTION: General Eisenhower arrives in Washington to be met by his wife and later to be presented with the Oak Leaf Cluster to the Distinguished Service medal by President Truman. In New York he receives another ovation as he drives through the streets. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Transport plane taxies over La Guardia Airport. Eisenhower out, kissed by his wife. CU of both. Entering open car, drive through the streets of Washington, crowded with waving & cheering crowds. Ike’s car completely surrounded by camera cars. Drive along street. Capitol in background. Mr Truman presents Ike with Oak Leaf Cluster award, pinning same on him & shaking hands. CU Eisenhower. Fade to New York. Ike with Mayor La Guardia drives through streets, raining paper, bunting, etc., crowds cheer etc. One person runs up road & hands Ike a large key. Later another person, a woman tries to shake hands with Ike but police turn her back. Shots of drive, all angles. Looking up side of skyscraper, rather effective. Ike stands in car acknowledging crowds. Down Fifth Avenue, outside City Hall, cut-ins of huge crowds, Eisenhower addresses people. "Pleased that war in Europe is over" etc.
