Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Allied Pacific Naval Power. DESCRIPTION: The war in the Pacific continues and many ships from the British Navy are engaged in this operation. For the Fleet Air Arm landing on carriers in any weather is a tricky business and we see one landing which caused damaged beyond repair to the aircraft. Film taken aboard an American warship during a naval engagement off Okinawa shows a US task force being attacked by the Japanese air force in great strength. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. King George V Battleship. Various angle shots of warships in Sydney harbour. Elevated shot of Aircraft Carrier "Illustrious". CU Admiral Rawlings (Task Force Commander) coming into camera. Shots of Aircraft Carriers in line ahead. On board one Corsairs & Avengers on flight deck, wings folded. Very good shot of A/Carrier riding the sea, with screws out of water - special. CU wings of plane straightening out. CU arrester hook, & planes landing on deck, shows arrester hook in operation. Naval crew fight fire of plane alight on flight deck, use fire-foam. Plane lifted over side by crane & dumped into sea. Plane crashes into sea, pilots picked up by destroyer, not seen. Pilot transferred to aircraft carrier by breeches buoy. LS of "Howe" battleship through porthole. GV of "Howe" with all her anti-aircraft guns in action, pom-poms, etc. GV of ship firing her 14" guns, also. CU of same broadsides. The following is excellent action material, enemy planes flying through very heavy flak; crashing into sea, various shots of ships & aircraft in combat, sea peppered with falling flak. American fighter crashes into sea, another lands (attempts) on flight deck, hits superstructure of A/C. CU machine crumbling. GV of battle to end.
