- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Mandalay Falls. DESCRIPTION: Both Indian troops and men from the United Kingdom fought their way into the centre of Mandalay. The enemy’s last stand was made at Fort Dufferin which was bombed by Hurricanes. The pagoda at one of the gates of the Fort was an important target and soon after this went up in flames Mandalay was ours. SHOTLIST: Cut story - 14th Army troops advance. Various angle shots of village under shell fire from us, fires burning. SCU General Wynford Rees (Commanding 19th Division) looks at map with another officer. In second shot he is talking into a BBC microphone. Indian & British troops march along country roads, includes Royal Berks. Shots of pagodas, etc. Troops approach city. Jap prisoners with bandages over their faces brought in. LS of Fort Dufferin, also being dive bombed by Hurricanes, shots of explosions. Bombs fall near to pagodas & temples etc. British fire 5.5 artillery at point blank range at "Onion" pagoda, direct hits & catches fire, & collapses, was being used by Japs as OP. Various cut-ins of 5.5’s firing.
