- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Cologne’s Fate. DESCRIPTION: Something like sixty per cent of Cologne has been destroyed by Allied bombing to eliminate it as a production centre. The RAF first used its new ten ton bomb on a viaduct at Bielefeld which carried one of the last remaining two-track railways connecting the Rhur with the rest of Germany. SHOTLIST: Various shots from air & ground of Cologne ruins, shows Cathedral, wrecked bridges, wrecked marshalling yards etc. Not one house intact. German civilians climbing over rubble, pans of city. Raid on Bielefeld Viaduct with 22,000lb bombs. Shot of 12,000lb train (bomb) across aerodrome. CU of same. Aerial shots of viaduct before bombing. Bombs exploding largest of which is the 22,000lb. Aerial shots of viaduct after bombing, cut-ins of Lancasters in flight & flying through flak. There aren’t any photos of the 22,000lb bomb.
