- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Gloucesters Arrive in Australia. DESCRIPTION: The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester arrive in Australia with their two sons. In Canberra the Duke is sworn-in as Governor General of Australia. Before travelling to Canberra the family pose for the press in the grounds of Admiralty House, Sydney. SHOTLIST: Cut story - (Library - Aerial shots of Sydney harbour & bridge). Motor launch, with Duke & Duchess of Gloucester, & their two children Prince William & Prince Dick. Family off launch greeted by Mr Forde, & Mr McKell. Group walk towards Mayor of Sydney, who greet same. Duke of Glos. makes a short speech. Streets lined with cheering crowds. Family enter car, drive through streets, stop at War Memorial to lay wreath on same. More cheering crowds. At Canberra, car drives up to Parliament House (for swearing-in) Duke & Duchess enter same, interior shots of Duke & Duchess walking to their seats. Seated next to them are Mr & Mrs Curtin. Pan of audience which included Mr Menzies. Oath of Allegiance presented to Duke, takes oath on bible etc. Party leaving. Back in Sydney, Admiralty House, various shots of in the grounds of Duke & Duchess with Prince William & Prince Richard having their photos taken, Prince William insists on running round grounds instead of posing for cameraman, shot of the cameramen. Finish on Duchess pushing Prince William’s hair out of his eyes.
