Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Clearing Alsace-Lorraine. DESCRIPTION: Film from the southern sectors of the western front shows Americans of the Seventh Army advancing into the Vosges. Reconnaissance Units and Infantry had the job of clearing out the Hun and moving on to Saverne. Further south the First French Army entered an apparently deserted Mulhouse, but when the locals realised it wasn’t the Germans returning they celebrated in the streets. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. British soldiers feet march through mud. Advance into the Vosges, Yank infantry march along roads & through woods. Tanks advance. Captured 203mm German artillery. Yanks halt on road stand around tanks, Shermans. Tanks & jeeps stopped by wayside. Zabern (Saverne) signpost. Reccy units & tanks clear woods near Saverne. Motorised units enter Mulhouse, French civvies with Tricolour parade through street. Nazis Gestapo captured marched off down street. French ransack German HQ., exit with cases of food etc. GV of small Swastika flags on ground. POW searched & marched off through town. Strasbourg sign, Sherman tanks through town, & GV Rhine Canal, which runs through city. GV Cathedral badly damaged. Burning jeeps in road, Yanks fire rifles, machine guns, also Shermans fire their guns at snipers. CU Captured German General Vaterrot, Hun Commander of Strasbourg. Also shots of him with his staff. Elevated & various angle shots of thousands of prisoners paraded in square, to finish.
