Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Vive Churchill!!. DESCRIPTION: Mr Churchill received a warm welcome from General de Gaulle on his arrival in Paris. At the Armistice Day ceremony in the city the Premier and General laid wreaths and the walked down the Champs Elysees together. The Parisians cheered the troops in the parade, but above that sound was the chanting of "Churchill", "Churchill". SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Guard of Honour presenting arms (Le Garde Republicaine). CU flag. De Gaulle at Orly Aerodrome, near Paris, awaits arrival of Churchill. Churchill out of Douglas plane, shakes hands with de Gaulle, Mrs Churchill followed by Mary Churchill alight from plane. Mrs Eden greets Mr Eden, kisses same. Churchill inspects French troops. In Paris crowds line streets. Churchill (in RAF uniform) & de Gaulle out of car. At Arc de Triomphe the two walk towards Unknown Warrior’s Tomb, both lay wreaths on same, the French Last Post is sounded & firing on one gun. SV Churchill & de Gaulle saluting. Churchill sign book, both leave. CU of both, they walk along Champs Elysees to saluting base, GV of same, those prominent being the above Mrs Churchill, Mary Churchill, Mrs Eden, M Bidault (Minister of Foreign Affairs) & Eden. Various shots of marchpast, French Cavalry, except for about one company all are headed by their own bands. Cut-ins of Churchill & de Gaulle saluting. British troops - the Guards wearing berets, followed by kilted Canadians, US troops, French Colonial troops, French Marines, gendarmes hold crowds back. Churchill & de Gaulle get into open car, the two stand acknowledging the crowds, trucking shots of crowds cheering, shouting "Churchill. Churchill". Cut-ins of Churchill & de Gaulle in car as they drive through Paris, crowds were enormous.
