Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Forward Into Germany. DESCRIPTION: The Siegfried Line has been breached and the first German town to fall was Roetgen. United Kingdom troops have crossed the Escaut Canal, this was the beginning of the drive to Nijmegen to link up with the airborne forces. The airborne army has crossed into Holland and after the landings hard fighting is reported to have taken place. SHOTLIST: Cut story - (Library - KS. GV of Siegfried Line. Various aerial shots of Siegfried Line. Hitler in car inspects same. More aerial shots of Line.) Various shots of American tanks stationary fire their guns at German territory. Yanks cross stream under bridge, over rocks, elevated shot of them along banks. GV of railway at Roetgen, pan across same. German house with white flag flying. Various in town shows German civilians at their doors, also several children. Couple of Yanks try to get fresh with German girl. Elevated shot of Wallendorf smoking, burning etc. Yanks fire mortars from fields, woods etc., at same town. Various shots of ruined & burning buildings in town. Shots of smashed pillboxes of Siegfried Line, way open for traffic. Pillbox with notice that Hitler had visited same. SCU of General Hodges & General Dempsey, walk into camera. UK troops cross Escaut Canal, also Sherman tanks. Shots of Typhoons operating in support of troops. British troops cross fields, fire Spandau machine gun. CU Dutch Underground soldiers armlet. GV of Dutch Underground troops. Back in England, aerial shot of aerodrome with gliders neatly lined up, others taking off. GV of take offs, towed by Albemarles. Aerial shot of Spitfires in formation (squadrons) as escort. Various aerial shots of gliders & tow planes, cross Dutch coast, over flooded areas of Holland. AFU - Various civilians of Gheel look up at armada as it passes over. Planes passing over. Aerial shots of gliders on ground, others touching down, one crashes into another towing. Aerial shots of masses of paratroops descending into Holland to finish.
