Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Marauders Mission (Raids on airfields in France & Holland). DESCRIPTION: B26 Marauder bombers of the ninth US Air Force have been extremely active in operations based in Britain, since their arrival from the Middle East. This story - the story of a typical Marauder attack - was shot by members of a Combat Camera unit. The target on this occasion was one of several airfields in Holland, from which the Germans may have been raiding London. SHOTLIST: Dawn shot of crew & mechanics preparing Marauders for mission. CU "War Room" door, door opens, seated at desk inside is Major General LH Brereton. MS of Brereton with others round, Brereton speaks about raids on Europe. Various shots of Marauders on aerodromes, in lines, fuelling, loading up with bombs, engine turning, Marauders taxies down runway. Various shots of take-offs, all angles, in & out of camera. Aerial shots, inside pilot cockpit. Various aerial shots of formations, LS of them above clouds. Interior shot radio operator, pilot & co-pilot don tin helmets. Pass over Channel, cross enemy coast & into flak. Flying through flak, aerial shots of several formations, various shots of bombs falling. Many bombs falling simultaneously. CU bombs leaving bomb rack. Over Venlo, airfields being plastered with bombs, explosions all over aerodromes, runways etc hit. Various shots of hits registering & clouds of smoke rising into the air. Formations of Marauders lead for home, still flying through flak. Shots of planes with one engine stopped, another leaves trail of smoke after being hit. Typhoon fighters arrive to escort Marauders back to base. Aerial shot of home aerodrome. Ground shot of Ambulances, nurses, personnel, awaiting return of planes, several landing Marauders, one fires flares (indication of trouble) belly lands, GV of same after landing. Aerial shot of formations of Marauders.
