Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Pacific Air War. DESCRIPTION: Americans consolidating on Arawa in New Britain meet one of many Japanese air attacks. The film shows American carriers in action near the Marshall Islands. SHOTLIST: Cut story - At Arawa, New Britain, GS of jungle. Yanks signal LCI as it comes into land on beach. Shots of Jap planes attacking craft as it lands. American troops run to action stations, firing AA guns. LS of bombs dropping in sea. Explosions by same. LS of Lightning (P38) shot down. A P47 also crashing. Pilot comes down on parachute. Natives as guides go out on barge to rescue pilot. Pilot stumbling ashore with rubber dinghy, walks along beach into camera, climbs on Jeep. Off the Marshall Islands, GV of carrier under way. LS of smoke screen & explosions combined. Various shots of Jap planes attacking aircraft carrier, material shot from flight deck of carrier. Jap planes raking carrier with fire, tracers fired at planes, American sailors lying on deck of carrier. Jap plane gets wing shot off, catches fire & crashes into sea, rear of carrier. Formation of American Marauders or Bostons (not sure). Various shots of air action. Another Jap plane crashing, you don’t see it hit water, but shot of same after. Closer shot of the first plane hit (wing shot away) firing & crashing into water. This is excellent material. GS of carrier steaming away with crashed plane still burning on water, deck crowded with American sailors.
