- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Russia - the Great Offensive. DESCRIPTION: News from Russia includes the enrollment of a division of Polish volunteers to fight beside the Red Army. In the south the fall of Novorossisk cleared the way for the great advance which led to the cutting-off of the Crimea. They city of Karkov, twice lost by the Russians, is re-taken for the second time, this event was one of the first victories to be celebrated by a salute of guns in Moscow. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Various shots of Poles in civilian clothes, marching up hill. GS civilians being fitted for uniforms. CU types in uniform. Various shots paraded & taking oath. GS of Polish flag at masthead. GV marchpast of troops, artillery, & tanks. Elevated shot of Novorossisk & coastal guns, & bombardment of town, night & day shots. LS of results, explosions, etc. GS of night firing of artillery, also rocket guns. Few shots of Black Sea Fleet, also of small craft approaching coast. Russian Marines in craft, also advancing over ruins & along roadways etc. Firing mortars. Flying the Red Flag at top of building. Town of Yelna captured. Various shots of camouflaged guns, artillery in fields, & countryside, infantry advance across plains. Tanks advance, cut-in flag (Red) flying on building. Russian tanks entering town of Yelna. Civilians return home, crossing bridge. CU General Krylov & LS. Kharkov, smoking, smouldering & fires burning, panning shots of ruins, Jeep through towing small artillery. Artillery & motored infantry enter town, greeted by cheering Russians, who hand them flowers, couple kissing. GS of General Kornev receiving flowers. Newspapers being read in street, German signs being torn down. GV of Russian generals in street. Dusk shots of Moscow firing salute, various shots, & finishing on flares dropping from sky. Generals Khrushchev, Jukov and Kornev on platform.
