- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Tide Turning in the Pacific. DESCRIPTION: The tide of battle in many areas of the Pacific is turning in favour of the American forces. SHOTLIST: Cut story - MS Admiral Chester Nimitz, seated at desk. Map of Pacific shows New Guinea, Rabaul, Gilbert Islands, & surrounding countries. American warships in line ahead, firing broadsides (this is very good). Seated at their jungle HQ are Admiral William Halsey & Rear Admiral Wilkinson. Masses of US planes flying over US Fleet into camera, also shot from one of the ships as they go over, very effective shots. Battleships fire broadsides (excellent material). Mitchell dropping baskets of bombs, aerial shot of hits registering. Marines come ashore on "Ducks" & other amphibious craft, at Empress Augusta Bay. Marines jumping off landing craft, also Jeep & light artillery gun stuck in sand, bulldozer pulls same out, another Jeep towing artillery gun comes off landing craft, straight up beach. Pan of jungle & battlefield, shows dead Japs. Various shots of jungle as Marines wind their way through same, these are accompanied by Aussies.
