Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Lord Woolton’s New Post. DESCRIPTION: Lord Woolton takes up his new post as Minister of Post-War Affairs and stakes his intentions to Movietone. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Interior shot, MS & CU of Lord Woolton making speech about the Ministry of Food, on taking up his new post as Minister of Post-War Affairs. Rough Speech: "I am leaving the Ministry of Food with the greatest regret, I was honoured by the task of trying to keep the Nation fed during the war ... I beg the people of this Country who have accepted restrictions and shortage, with a tolerant understanding to accept my gratitude for their support and encouragement ... I have left behind at the Ministry of Food what I believe to be the finest general staff of food that any Country in the world either has or desires. Under the leadership of Colonel Llewellyn you may rely upon it that they will take care of you. I beg that you will give to them the same confidence that you have given to me in the past. The new responsibility that the PM has given me for the reconstruction of Britain will take many years ... I wish to impress that we will not get to an economic heaven on a non-stop flight ... first things must be first ... food, homes and work. I will make no promises until I know that they will be fulfilled, that’s the reason why your consideration under the MOF ... I will faithfully and without prejudice examine the facts in association with my colleagues and then put forward proposals worthy of our great nation ... "
