Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Endurance & Gallantry Rewarded. DESCRIPTION: A Chinese steward in the Merchant Navy, 25 year old Poon Lim, set a world record by living on a raft in the South Atlantic for 133 days. He received the British Empire Medal in an Investiture at Buckingham Palace. SHOTLIST: KS. Launch (some Scottish West Coast Port) coming into camera. GS of Poon Lim standing on deck, being assisted off same. Walks up jetty steps, being greeted by Mr Tom McPherson. Poon Lim with a representative of Chinese Ambassador. CU Poon Lim. Fade to Buckingham Palace investiture, American Technical Sergeant Ferrell walks over to three New Zealanders of the Army, being Sergeants: Hickson, Black & Todd. Displaying their medals. GS of three ATS girls displaying their medals (BEM) CSM Whitehead, Sergeants Jones & Walker. Poon Lim CU walks over to Vice Consul Tan shakes hands with him, & climbs into car.
