- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Naples Today. DESCRIPTION: General Clark recently arrived in Naples to inspect the troops of the Fifth Division and see the damage which had been done to the city. Naples’ biggest problem has been the water supply (which had been cut) making rationing essential. The Germans had left behind a number of well concealed delayed action incendiary bombs and a fire in the Via Roma was the result of one of them. SHOTLIST: Cut story - (RAF. LS Mount Vesuvius with Bofors gun in foreground. LS of Naples elevated shot & pan. AA guns in fore. GS of Naples seafront shows line of Jeeps arriving one of them was General Clark, GS getting out, GS with General Ridgeway CO of Yankee Paratroop Division.) GS of damaged town, also various shots of damaged harbour & docks, cranes, sunken ships, GS of liner in harbour, British minesweeper entering harbour. (RAF. Back at seafront General Clark boards Piper Cub, which takes off from roadway along front, GS of same out of camera.) Various shots of Italians fighting to get water, also GS of same for bread. (RAF. GS of "Via Roma" (main street of Naples) shows smoke pouring from buildings, & fire caused by delayed action incendiary left by the Germans.)
