- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Reading Between the Lines (No 3). DESCRIPTION: The "Normandie" is being refloated in New York Harbour. Sir Frank Newson-Smith is elected the new Lord Mayor of London. Indian troops meet Their Majesties at Buckingham Palace and the King pins the Victoria Cross on Subadar Lalbahadur Thapa. US Army Gliders practice for invasion. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Aerial shots of "Normandie" at sea, also passing camera. Shots of her on fire. Workmen working on upturned hull, welding etc. Shots of her partly righting herself, shots with slight list. Water pouring from pumps, on side of ship. Camera panning "Normandie" into an upright position (trick photography). (44109). New Lord Mayor - 44118 - Several shots of present Lord Mayor, Sheriffs etc, entering Guildhall. MS of present Lord Mayor with newly elected Lord Mayor Sir Frank Newson-Smith. GS of black cat in courtyard of Guildhall. King Decorated Indian with VC - 44117. GS of Indians parading, K&Q inspect. GS of King (silent) talking to various Indians. Shots of crowds at Buckingham Palace rails. King pinning VC on Subadar Lalbahadur Thapa VC who afterwards salutes & marches off. US Gliders Practice Invasion - 44110 (also 44381). Ground staff running under wings of Douglas planes & gliders attaching tow ropes to towing planes. Various shots of gliders landing, causing dust as they land. Cut-in of General Arnold with officers, watch landings etc. Glider lands, troops out & out of nose comes a Jeep, another glider landing on the water, troops wade ashore. "Normandie" Re-Floating (RBTL) - CARD 44109 Location - USA Cut story - Aerial shots of "Normandie" at sea, also passing camera. Shots of her on fire, workmen working on her unturned hull, welding etc. Shot of her partly righting herself. Water pouring from pumps, on side of ship. Camera panning to an upright position. US Gliders Practice Invasion (RBTL) - CARD 44110 Location - USA Cut story - Ground staff running across aerodrome ducking under wings of Douglas planes & gliders, attaching tow ropes to towing planes. Various angle shots gliders coming into land. Cause terrific dust as they land. Cut-in of General Arnold with officers looking on. Several gliders landing, one into camera nose covered in dust, troops jump out, they lift nose of glider & out drives a jeep onto which they climb & drive off. Another glider landing on water, troops wade ashore. King Decorates Indian With VC - CARD 44117 Cut story - GS of Indians parading, King & Queen inspects, GS of King stopping to talk to a few (silent). Crowds at Buckingham Palace railings. King pins VC on Subadar Lalbahadur Thapa, who afterwards salutes and marches off. The New Lord Mayor - CARD 44118 Location - Guildhall, London Cut story - Several shots of present Lord Mayor, Sheriffs etc. entering Guildhall. MS of present Lord Mayor (Samuel Joseph) with newly elevated Lord Mayor (Sir Frank Newson-Smith). LS of black cat in courtyard of Guildhall.
