Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Catania - Sicily’s Severest Test. DESCRIPTION: The Allied Military Government of Occupied Territory followed swiftly on the heels of advancing troops in Sicily. Their first task was to round up Fascist leaders in the captured towns. When the veterans of the Eighth get the chance of a rest, a mountain stream is turned into a bathing place and laundry. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS Elevated pan of countryside. Sherman tank along road, several through town of Grammichele, into camera, also travelling shot. Post of John Bull on ruins, soldier pastes Churchill poster over top. Sicilians look at poster. Troops round up Fascists, pan down on entrance, as led out. CMP on army lorry with dog mascot Fritzi (German origin). Fascist climb on lorry, drives away. In Calti-girone, GS of Yugoslavs clearing debris etc. Various shots of Sicilians clamouring for food, also CMP give their own biscuit rations away. Priests (mobile guns) firing in open country outside Enna, troops march single file along road. Infantry charging over ruins, wreckage, pillboxes etc. lead POW out. GS of Coralunga Bridge, also POW’s across same into camera. Shot of 88mm. German wrecked gun by bridge, also various shots of wreckage, dead etc. British troops (elevated shot) bathing in mountain stream, various shots. Also washing their clothes, & bathing themselves, finish with fellow in tin hat swimming into camera.
