- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Italian Slump. DESCRIPTION: The third report from Sicily shows the rapid advance of the Eighth Army after the first footholds in the South East corner of the island had been secured. General Montgomery, commander of the Eighth, drove along the coast road to sum up the situation. The people of Sicily welcomed our troops and dispensed what hospitality they could. Troops finding a train-load of flour left behind by the Italians, distributed it among the local population. SHOTLIST: Cut story - GS of Sherman tanks, various across dusty country. CU of Sherman also of bogey wheels & tread. Shermans pass through wooded section, along road & over bridge. Artillery firing. Elevated shot of bagpipers leading troops marching along road, single file. CU types. Various shots of British troops sniping. GS of burning vehicle. Artillery firing, barrel recoiling. Monty in open car, & MS of him. Monty on hillock overlooking sea, & island. Troops march through town. Shermans through town. Sicilians applaud. Civilians give oranges to troops. Soldier holds Italian baby. LS of POW in single file, marching waving white flags, also across open country. Lines of POW along road, lorry escorts, with soldier at ready with Bren gun. Various angles, German POW seated on ground. Other shots of POW mostly Italians. Pan of dead Italians & Germans. CU Mussolini. Mussolini & Hitler in open car drive through streets. Shots of stand on both, also Goebbels. Various angle shots & elevated of troops marching through Rome, also at the double. GS of King Victor Emmanuel & Mussolini in tin helmets. GS of Badoglio with other officers. Aerial shot of planes over Abyssinia dropping mustard gas. Laval & Mussolini enter building, standing in doorway. CU Mussolini speaking, in English. Mussolini holding Italian baby. Mussolini inspects troops, rides on horseback. CU Mussolini.
