Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: United Nations Day Parade. DESCRIPTION: A big parade marched from Wellington Barracks up Whitehall towards the Admiralty to mark United Nations Day. The salute was taken by General Sir Bernard Paget and Lieutenant General Sir Arthur Smith. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Taken from Duke of York Steps, Scots Guards hold the 27 flags of all freedom fighting Nations, march across road and take up positions each side of stand. Elevated shot of procession along Birdcage Walk, headed by RAF and Aussies. Passing Cenotaph, WAAFS & Kilted Regiment. CU General Paget on stand in Mall and GS of General Paget and General Smith on stand. General Paget takes salute, as firemen, NFS, Girls, Nurses. Civil Defence Workers, VAD Nurses and workers of all kinds. Royal Marines Band, WRNS, Indian Regiment, RAF, & Merchant Navy, pass by. Cut-in of General Paget saluting. British Army and I believe Canadian Women finishing on the flags of the Nations taking their place and the end of the procession, passing camera. (In the cut story was a cut-in of various representatives by dais of Allied Nations. A list of their names is now on the ‘Odds and Ends File’ for future reference).
