Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Men of Timor. DESCRIPTION: The amazing story of a handful of Australians, who lost to the outside world, fought on in defiance of unmeasurably superior Japanese strength. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Map of Timor & surrounding islands & waters. LS of island, Aussies in jungle cooking venison, stuck on bamboo rods, over open fire. CU of Aussies eating. GS of camp with natives arriving carrying small crocodile, roped on bamboo. Aussie look up at sky as Jap scout plane flies over. Then various sorties, men through undergrowth, angle shots, fling themselves on ground fire rifles, then retreat. Carrying wounded through jungle. GS of soldiers soldering radio, sending out message to Darwin, which shows them receiving, various shots. CU paper with Joan written on it. Supplies have arrived, fellow runs razor down beard. CU money (coins) which is for natives helping Aussies, paying out natives. Pack horses setting off from camp. LS of valley & jungle, & patrols through jungles, natives set village on fire, primitive warfare, throwing of spears, etc. LS of bringing in native prisoners, LS of them coming through valley. Prisoners being men, women & children. Officer parades 5 NCO’s, congratulates them on the behaviour. CU officer named ‘Bull’ finishes with silhouette of soldier on sentry.
