Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: ‘Wings for Victory’ - Week. DESCRIPTION: The "Wings for Victory" week received a good send off in London where events took place in Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square and Hyde Park. There was a procession through the City of London, where the Lord Mayor took the salute. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Elevated shots of crowds in Trafalgar Square. Shot of Nelson’s Column, pan down to Lancaster Bomber in Square. Lord Mayor of London and Lord Kindersley arrive (walk into camera). Shot of stand with above in same. Soldier release pigeons from baskets. Pigeons in flight. Two bulldogs, one has sailors hat on and corporals stripes. Children in crowds. Lancaster bomber takes off into camera (Library). Tommy Trinder in Leicester Square with chorus girls on stand. Trinder dancing with one. He asks the crowd to come nearer stand, elevated shots of same. Trinder tells seven chorus girls to stand to attention, he then kisses them, afterwards cracks a joke. Spitfire takes off (SV). Canadian Scots in Hyde Park playing bagpipes, several angle shots including into camera, crowds in background. Cut-ins of crowds. Sunderland takes off from water (Library). CU same coast in background. Procession through London. Lord Mayor takes salute. MS shot. Procession consisted of sailors, soldiers, RAF, WAAF, WRNS, ATS, NFS, ARP and Merchant Navy. Soldiers into camera and elevated shots of same. Airborne and Paratroops pass camera. Various shots of bombs, 8,000, 4,000lbs. CU also German bombs. RAF equipment, beacon rescue float etc. Elevated shots of procession through Trafalgar Square, Mayor of Westminster raises hat as they pass. CU RAF passing camera in procession. very good marching shots in this.
