MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Mussolini’s Pride - Tripoli. DESCRIPTION: Before the war Tripoli was the principal North African base of Italian colonisation. The Duce opened up a beautiful coast road and built a Marble Arch. The Eighth Army has made good use of the road but have no time to stop and admire the Arch. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Aerial shot of Tripoli, also showing harbour. Mussolini & General Balbo with other officials, walk down street into camera, crowds cheering & waving, another shot of Mussolini standing up in car as it drives through street. Mussolini on horse back presented with a sword by an Arab. CU Mussolini with sword over shoulder also waving same. Night shot of Marble Arch showing flares burning around same, Mussolini with others walks through Arch. Day shot of Marble Arch (aerial shot) showing traffic passing through, camera pans from top to base of Arch. Marble Arch - Libya. A305/1 - CARD 43336 Various LS & CU shots of Marble Arch. Erected to commemorate the establishment of the Italian Empire in North Africa.
