Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Aircraft Carriers Beat Off Sea Blitz. DESCRIPTION: Movietone presents one of the most sensational newsreel pictures of the war, flashing to the screen a vivid story of the violent and unceasing struggle in the South Pacific. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Opens with ack-ack in sky, tracers coming up. Aerial view of warship circling in sea. LS of battleship firing big guns. GS Battleships, destroyers under way. GS Carrier swinging hard to port; on flight deck American running towards camera out of the way of falling bombs; enemy planes dive bombing carrier, GS of pom-poms firing, tracers all round enemy planes, several hits are made, one falling towards sea, eventually crashes. shot of aft of carrier showing US planes on flight deck. Personnel running about getting cover wherever possible. More LS of planes encircled by ack-ack. Enemy plane crashing into sea, it flies parallel with sea before crashing. Bomb hits stern of carrier, running out hose, plane near end of flight deck bomb begins to fall (you only see contact) smoke clears after hit, and plane bounces off deck through vibration of bomb hit. Plane crashing vertically into sea. Tail turns up. Crashed enemy plane on fire near carrier. GS after raid showing many damaged US aircraft on deck. Sailor & Marine walking past US flag. CU US Flag. Several bomb hits were scored on carrier. This is well worth having a lavender taken of same, best naval action of this war. Enemy planes seemed to come from everywhere.
