Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Stalingrad - Russia’s Glory. DESCRIPTION: 1942 has meant hard fighting for the heroic Red Army; let us hope 1943 will bring final victory for our allies, the Soviet Peoples. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Key scene Ruins of Stalingrad MP on traffic duty. Cavalry galloping past, horse drawn equipment, on outskirts of city, troops march through city. Soldier climbs down sand bank, to mend broken communications, explosion in background. Mending wire, telephones HQ GS HQ receiving. Beaufighter planes in formation, explosions where bombs hit. Aerial shots of same. Bombs dropping. Timo-Vorishkolov Tanks go forward, formation (LS) of Me109’s, AA battery firing, gets hit, plane crashes (very good shot); burning plane. River Volga gunboats under way. Captain on bridge, approach bank, gunboats commence firing as troops jump ashore, various shots of same. Attack through smoke screen. Many angle shots of Stalingrad itself, showing Russian troops in street fighting; taking cover from windows, porches, stacks of debris etc. German runs out of building, shot dead. Sniper makes his 41st kill, GS of him & shot of German getting shot, pan of ruins. Silhouette of German soldier entering house, brilliant sunshine outside, gets shot, falls dead. Russian soldier lying in ruins throws grenade at building. Soldiers jumping through doorway, windows etc. attacking up street, elevated shot of same. Machine gunner takes protection from corner of building, others run on. Shot taken from tank of various street fighting, Burning German tank, prisoners led out of building, to another; soldier fires Verey [sic] light; tanks go forward over fields, infantry behind GS tank. Explosion background as soldiers advance, tank fording stream, soldiers through smoke screen. Soldier standing up in turret.
