MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Third Anniversary of the War (Archbishop of Canterbury in Screen Book). DESCRIPTION: It is three years since that memorable Saturday and Sunday of 1939 when peace was slipping away from us. There was an air of unreality about everything, the sandbags in the streets, the gas masks, the barrage balloons and that false alarm air raid. SHOTLIST: CU Archbishop in front of altar. Shots of choirboy singing. CU Archbishop holding prayer book. Library Material - Story begins with shots taken on or about 3rd Sept. 1939. Preparations for air raid, sandbag filling, first air raid warning, siren etc. Chamberlain & Ministers going to Commons. Big Ben at 11 o’clock. Chamberlain’s war declaration speech "It is evil things war are fighting etc.". Chamberlain leaving No 10 Downing Street. Good shot of King in lounge suit outside No 10 Downing Street with Chamberlain. Shot of Houses of Parliament. Story starts with a shot of very heavy clouds depicting war.
