Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Hazards of Convoy to Malta. DESCRIPTION: The convoy from Gibraltar to Malta meets many hazards on it’s Mediterranean route. The convoy is escorted by two aircraft carriers HMS Eagle and HMS Argus. The main attacks on the convoy made over a period of three days were often a combination of high level bombing and simultaneous torpedo-aircraft attack. SHOTLIST: LS Convoy - Med. panning shots. Escorts. Cargo ships. Freighters etc., A/C Eagle and Argus - planes take off. Sailor signalling (lamp). Gunners on station. Sailor on Capstan with violin whilst sailors man same. Course plotters. Loading guns. Ack Ack gun firing. Tracers into sky. Depth charges exploding in sea. Various shots of bombs exploding in sea. Plane hit. Bombs exploding. Close shots of bomb explosions. Guns firing. Running up flag signal. Plane on fire into sea. Officers on bridge. Gunners eating at post. Italian plane flies over the top of ship and crashes into sea (good shot). Ships making smoke for defence. Explosions in the smoke. Guns firing. After attack sailors clear away shell cases etc., LS. Pall of smoke in distance from hit ship. GV Malta Harbour. Excellent panning shots of the ruins of Malta. People walking through ruins. (Very good ruins). Escort leaves Malta. Arrives Gib. GV Gib. Rock. Ships Company on deck cheering.
