Summary
Pathe synopsis: Making vacuum flasks is complex business which starts with the moulding of the glass flask. At a Thetford, Norfolk factory, we watch the inner and outer vessels of the vacuum bottle being welded together and then go on to a Brentwood factory. Here a solution of pure silver is pumped between the glass walls - to retain the heat - and the air is evacuated. The flasks are then subjected to rigorous shock treatment with boiling water before they’re passed on to the assembly line where - as ever - the jigsaw puzzle of parts are put into place.
