- Summary
- Pathe synopsis: The age of automation is alive and clicking and sometimes it may seem that machines are taking us over. But the spirit of adventure lingers, and one way the boy at the factory bench or the girl at the office desk can relieve the monotony of routine is "Outward Bound". Six special schools in Britain and over twenty more around the world are giving young people a taste of adventure - and a means of developing initiative, self-confidence and responsibility. At the "Outward Bound" school at Ashburton on Dartmoor we watch boys on an arduous 26-day course. There’s training in canoe rolling - and surf-canoeing; rock-climbing and cliff rescue; potholing and a dramatic twenty foot jump into the River Dart to wash mud-spattered caveing clothes. Yet this isn’t solely a man’s world. Girls have their own school and mixed courses, too, are starting. Sexual equality has reached "Outward Bound".
