- Summary
- Pathe synopsis: Women these days are more than invading a man’s world: they’re making it a woman’s world. Young nurses learn to fly single monoplanes at Chobham, Surrey. It’s the London Nurses Flying Club taking to the air proving that wives, mothers, girl-friends are finding more time to pursue exciting hobbies. They also find themselves in command more often. Take the world of women’s magazines. Nineteen million women read the weeklies: Woman, Woman’s Own, Woman’s Realm and Woman’s Weekly. The biggest is Woman selling three and a half million every week. With Woman’s cooperation, Pathe Pictorial cameras went behind the scenes to see just why this world within a woman’s world has had so much influence in expanding women’s scope for independence. It’s what they call a "service" weekly. Every department performs a service. Fashion Production designs and makes clothes from drawing to cut out and sew-up stage - readers send in for these and other "offers". The Wooden Spoon Club boasts one of the lushest kitchens imaginable - designed just to give housewives the best advice and making their homes easier and more enjoyable to run. There’s a Home Department advising on the latest in interior decor and Beauty Box is aimed at health, care and fitness. We join a typical movement to music course at Crystal Palace, part of a keep-fit feature. It all goes to show, in the end, that in the chase towards equality, women are still bent on keeping their looks.
