- Summary
- Pathe synopsis: The English love messing about in boats - a dragon class yachts, in this case, in the bracing days the sport of princes is truly democratic. The Danes at Esbjerg take boats more seriously with a hundred plus fleet of up-to-date motor vessels that can spend weeks beyond the Arctic Circle. At St Georges, Bermuda, a boat brings the island’s Governor in to collect the rent from the local Freemasons. Cocked hat, white plumes, the band of the Bermuda Regiment, it all seems more British than the British for the annual St George’s Day Peppercorn Ceremony. Americans at home think big, especially at Long Beach, California where they’ve got oilwells on the front. But when they want something really big they get it from Britain. They’ve bought the Queen Mary and they’re converting it into a giant, permanent fun palace. In the fishing village of Aberdeen, Hong Kong, most people live on boats. It’s a hurly burly of exotic activity with shops that come round to you - by water. But now the Chinese are leaving the water for the brand new flats - quite the opposite of the English who’ll always go down to the sea in ships.
