Summary
Pathe synopsis: The ‘patients’ in the ‘hospital’ at London’s National Gallery are sometimes worth millions - and first aid becomes a major operation. In for treatment are ailing paintings, treasures to be restored. Holes are filled in with putty, cracks ironed out with the restorer’s mini version of a housewife’s iron. One painting took 16 years to restore and there’s a lot of detailed, painstaking work to be done to Titian’s two million pound masterpiece "Bacchus and Ariadne".
