- Summary
- Pathe synopsis: A lunar landscape - on earth. This introduces us to Turkey, the crossroads between north, south, east and west. From an Ankara parade, with its sophistication, we find ourselves among primitive shepherds, cotton-pickers and camel caravans. And we find Turkey adds up to a Mediterranean coast with Roman remains, minarets and slow-paced, primitive living all mixed up with lush living at Izmir’s outstanding modern Grand Hotel. The Bosphorus and Istanbul are delightful and compelling, puzzling too. Neither utterly eastern or entirely west. But fascinating by any standards, with folk dancers bridging the centuries and the inconsistent cultures that meet up with each other here.
