- Summary
- Pathe synopsis: A King rides in a red and gold coach to prayers and thousands cheer. The Sabbath Day scene in Rabat, capital of Morocco - land of enigmas. This isn’t a desert kingdom but one bursting with flowers and fruit, for these is water sometimes from natural springs, more often from irrigation: a camel works a seaside waterwheel. Palm trees, cactus, and snowy mountains. In Marrakech you see industry in the narrow-streets: the brilliant colours of the cloth-dying and drying yards, the barrage of brilliance in the bazaar. Outside the city walls there’s another world: Berber barbars, cobblers, tanners and all manner of tradesmen and craftsmen cluster under the ancient ramparts to carry on their colourful arts. Ancient crafts are learned by tiny boys at Safi, the seaside pottery town. The tourist is king in a country where you can lounge by a pool, or ski, yes, ski on the second highest mountain in Africa and the King himself rides out of his mosque like a fairy tale hero astride an Arab charger.
