Summary
Pathe synopsis: On the edge of the Negev Desert looking over the shores of the Dead Sea there stands one of the most amazing monuments to the human will to survive - the rock fortress of Masada. Here King Herod built a palace, but our story is about the Zealots - that Jewish tribe of rebels who threw off the Roman yoke some thirty years after the death of Christ and held out in a lonely beseiged vigil defending their beliefs for seven years. In 1963 the Israeli Government with generous British aid, launched an archaeological assault on Masada and uncovered unbelievable historical riches. The clothes the Zealots wore, the food they ate, survived in the dry mountain air, and were brought to London to be exhibited at the Royal Festival Hall. A twentieth century tribute to men, women and children who committed mass suicide rather than suffer the domination of Rome. History almost comes alive ...
