Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Duke of York at Sea. DESCRIPTION: America is increasing her Navy at a rapid rate. Britain’s latest battleship is the "Duke of York". The Navy continues to escort the convoys through dangerous waters. SHOTLIST: Various shots of the Duke of York at sea and a battle practice. Excellent material. Included in this story are good shots of merchant ships at sea both singly and in convoy. These may have been seen from the deck of the ‘Duke of York’. But in many cases one can only see the convoy; not a part of the ‘Duke of York’. Also a good shot of an aircraft carrier fairly close quarters and an aircraft landing on her deck. Name of Carrier is unknown as this part of the dope has been taken from the material available. Very good shots of rough seas breaking over the bows of the ship. Launching Submarine Chaser - CARD 42026 A night launching in Brooklyn. Christening illuminated by shipyard floodlights. Not a minute of delay. Launching USS Alabama - CARD 42025 Christened at Norfolk Navy Yard. Huge attendance in wet weather including Mrs Lister Hill, Secretary of the Navy Knox. Battleship of thirty-five thousand tons. Cost eighty million dollars. Launched nine months ahead of schedule. Launching Cruiser "Montpelier" - CARD 42014 A Vermong ceremony at Camden, New Jersey. Ship is christened. Launched six months ahead of schedule. Governor Wills of Vermont was present.
