- Summary
- Pathe synopsis: It’s Shakespeare’s four-hundredth anniversary and everybody’s getting in on the act. We go to the half-timbered cottages of Stratford and, at the one where the Bard’s mother used to live, we find - guitars, long hair and Hey Nonny with an irreverent beat. We see a Shakespeare statue that follows you round with its eyes - a real, showground marvel. We manufacture mead, the honey drink that Falstaff found as an alternative to sack. Then to a revel at Goodwood where the Chichester theatre company show Canadian actors how to eat a boar’s head or do some apple-bobbing. Back to the Birmingham firms mass-producing Shakespeare souvenirs. Then on to a glimpse of the new Shakespeare exhibition that Stratford, Edinburgh and London will have known, and a glimpse of his unchanging river. We hear his sweet innocent character, Miranda, say "O brave new world that has such people in it!" and we’re back with the guitars, the long hair and Bobby Patrick’s Big Six.
