- Summary
- Pathe synopsis: A gharry ride takes you to that side of the Mediterranean that Europeans forget - to the mosques and minarets of Alexandria, Egypt’s beguiling seaport where you sail in waters once lit by the Phars lighthouse, the seventh wonder of the ancient world. Or where you bathe from the Montazah Palace beaches, once the private beach of ex-King Farouk, exclusive to his favourites. We go into the Palace Casino and down in the catacombs dating back through Greek and Roman times to the days of the Pharoahs. On to a camel market at Aswan where the power-dam threatens some of Egypt’s most famous temples. From there to the Red Sea where tourists catch the fish that others only dream of and local fishermen take paraffin flares to lure the very fishes that their ancestors speared by the light of flares.
