Summary
Pathe synopsis: Derbyshire - famous for its crags and peaks and climbing paths which lead to Wonderland. We found a path which, like Alice’s, burrowed underground. A path stamped hard by miners’ boots. Miners - not of coal, not of some industrial mineral - but of Blue John [fluorite]. And Blue John is nowhere else in the world. Geologists will tell you it’s coloured fluoride of calcium. But the people of Castleton know it as a brooch or a vase or a shimmering bowl.
