Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Rommel on the Run. DESCRIPTION: The Eighth Army has been winning battles from Egypt to Tripolitania and has definitely got Rommel on the run. The garrison broke out of Tobruk and joined up with the relieving forces. Derna was the next capture as the Eighth Army swept on, on arrival there our troops found a number of our wounded in the Italian hospital. Sandstorms and rain hampered the pursuit of Rommel across the desert. SHOTLIST: Various shots of our tanks and men advancing in the desert. Shots of burning and smashed tanks and aeroplanes. The latter is Tobruk. In Tobruk, there are German and Italian prisoners waiting on the beach for transports to take them away to captivity. Then to Derna after hard fighting the troops enter. General elevated views of the town and street scenes. A lot of Italian war material was captured as well as stores - especially wine of which our troops make quick work. Scenes in hospital where British troops who were taken prisoner are released. Prisoners repair bombed roads and clear road destruction. The battlefield is covered with dead Germans. Rain is heavy, transport is bogged and soldiers rescue their belongings from flooded tents. Story finishes with shots of prisoners in mass formation. At suitable places in the story maps are inserted.
