Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Soviet Fights Back. DESCRIPTION: The factory town of Tula, to the south of Moscow, was almost surrounded by the Germans. It fought back and kept the munitions flowing from the factories. The Soviet army continues to push the Nazis back westward. The freezing conditions also take their toll of the German army. SHOTLIST: Scenes in Tula as the Germans approached. Barricades are erected in the streets. Scenes in munitions factories while soldiers are on guard in the streets. An armoured train leaves the factory and the cameraman travels on it to Moscow. In the capital, the streets are barricaded. Skis are made in large quantities and so are automatic weapons. Two workers are specially photographed in recognition of their great work - Maria Kazhevnikova and Katya Abramova. In a tank hospital, the tanks are repaired and on the snow covered front, tanks advance through open country and through towns (Tula). Cavalry is also in operation along the front and when a town is taken a scene of devastation meets the gaze - smashed transport, dead Germans and living Germans as prisoners are all that remain. The prisoners are cold as the guns blaze away. Extraordinarily good battle montage which should be noted for future use. Included in this story are shots of planes taking off and in flight. Good shots of the airmen. Name of types are unknown as this information was left off this in the first place. Shots of bombs dropping and also showing the ground below. Two maps of Russia are shown as well. CU of cockpit.
