Summary
Pathe synopsis: Going to sea in a sieve sounds silly enough, but how about setting sail on a bunch of fibres - each measuring one-fiftieth the diameter of a human hair? Well, it is not as silly as it sounds, for boats made of fibre glass, bonded together with special resin and other materials, have four times the strength of steel. When fitted with an inboard motor and two built-in bouyancy tanks, the boats can cruise along even when they are three-quarters full of water - which is more than a sieve can!
